Friends of Disaster Action
Disaster Action is a charity set up and run by survivors and bereaved from UK and overseas disasters. Founded in 1991, we provide an independent advocacy and advisory service that represents the interests of those directly affected by disaster.
As a ‘membership’ organisation we do not wish to grow. However, we are often approached by those working in fields such as emergency planning and disaster management who embrace our ideals and wish to support us in some way.
We wish to recognise this association through identifying Friends of Disaster Action – a category within our organisation referring to individuals who have been nominated and approved (by our Executive Committee) on the basis of their supporting our values and principles and being prepared actively to support the work of Disaster Action.
The ways in which Friends may support us may include (but are not restricted to) the following areas:
- Raising awareness - of DA’s core principles through their work, role, networks and communications
- Publicity – helping spread our messages through their professional associations about the existence, purpose and work of DA
- Fund raising – helping to organise, plan and/or advise on courses of funding and/or fund raising activities
- Advice – offering Disaster Action advice about its strategy, work, website, networks, etc.
